Janet Lyu

Janet is pursuing a doctor of musical arts degree in violin performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the guidance of Professor David Perry. Previously, she completed degrees in violin performance at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and has appeared in concert with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony, the New World Symphony, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In the summers, she has appeared as a fellow and student at the Aspen Music Festival & School, the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge. She also has extensive experience as a coach and teaching artist at several nonprofit music organizations, youth orchestras, and summer music camps in Chicago, Detroit, Interlochen, and Madison. Besides her interests in orchestral performance and teaching, Janet enjoys performing contemporary and chamber music. She has been a performer at the Strange Beautiful Music festival hosted by New Music Detroit, Contemporary Directions Ensemble at the University of Michigan, and is currently on the roster of Madison Chamber Players. Her doctoral research project is centered around programming one contemporary work by composers of Korean descent on each of her six degree recitals. When she is not performing, you can probably find Janet at a specialty coffee shop (not) getting work done.
